About Anna Kichenside -
Freelance Footwear Designer

I have been designing shoes for 10+ years, working in the footwear industry. After graduating with a First Class Hons in Footwear Design back in 2004, I went on to work for several British luxury brands, such as Gina Shoes and Gil Carvalho.

Alongside designing for previous employers within the luxury sector and highstreet, I also spent time setting up my own label of made-to-order luxury heels, as well as freelance consulting for independent companies, desiging shoes for them.

In 2011 I was short-listed for the Footwear Friends Designer Award, in association with Jimmy Choo,

Over the years, I have gained considerable knowledge working with factories in Europe, UK and the Far East. Through hard work, I have learned how to develop shoes and take them from the design stage, through to development & production - understanding factories capabilities is key. This in turn, has made me a more considered and thought-provoking designer - pushing boundaries between design and factory limitations.

I usually start with trend & creative research, designing mood boards for the up-coming collection, whilst looking at material mixing, colour palettes and trim details. Then I start initial sketching & designing, following through to sample-making and production.
